In 2015, I taught tuition as a way to supplement my income as a commissioned agent trying to provide ethical financial advice to clients which often meant low commissions.The income from tuition quickly eclipsed the low income I got from refusing to sell more lucrative insurance policies that were of bad value to my clients. Soon, I managed to start a centre with a couple of partners, and we have been running the business since.

I left a lucrative job at an insurance company to join an independent platform to provide ethical solutions for my clients.I started out my career in the industry as a tied insurance agent in a large insurance company. I grew increasingly unsatisfied with the limited range of services I was able to provide which under-served my clients’ (and even my own!) diverse financial needs. Training was almost completely product and sales based with little to no emphasis on proper financial planning. The last straw was when I met the sales target and qualified for my first overseas incentive trip. I witnessed first-hand the extravagant waste of money which invariably came at the policyholders’ expense. Top producers were boasting about their incomes, luxury cars and private properties. I made the decision to move to an FA firm to provide ethical and independent advice and better value to my clients, made possible with a wide range of solutions.Over the time I spent in the industry, I have found a keen sense of interest in my work and passion for all things relating to personal finance.
