ChairWarrington Visually Impaired People (Warrington & Widnes Blind Society) Aug 2008 - PresentWarrington - Fairfield And Howley Community CentreVariety of roles that chairs in scrutinising the work of the WVIP, plus driving the mini bus to bring the members to the centre. Always something happening in members lives and whereas we might think of it as a small thing to them it can be much bigger. They have a unique sense of humour and in general get on with things - giving them a bit of help and advice goes a long way indeed and can be very rewarding. On the look out for additional trustees and volunteers for succession planning. As with all charities it is hard work in these times of austerity and the bottom line is that you have to manage the charity as a business. We have 35 members visitng the centre on Tuesday and Thursday for a natter, lunch and some entertainment so it gets very busy and noisy. We also have home visitors who call in and see members.

ChairWarrington Nature Conservation Forum Dec 2009 - PresentWarringtonOur aim is to record details about the wildlife and habitat within the Bourough of Warrington and play an active role in recording, conserving, promoting and protecting species. We work closely with many partners and use the Cheshire database RODIS managed by ReCORD to capture our findings. This database not only builds up a picture of wildlife sightings but it is also used by local councils to search the area of a proposed Building Application to see if their are any threatened species in or around the site and therefore acts as a valuable defence for many species. A couple of years ago we lost the backing of WBC because of austerity so we have had to reorganise, set up our own media outlets and come back fighting stronger which is useually the way and try and convince the powers that be that Nature and Conservation are really important and shouldn't be overlooked.

TrusteeThe Mersey Forest May 2011 - Nov 2018Risley MossWe have a 25 year plan and recently the Northern Forest was announce so exciting times ahead. I used to represent WBC as a councillor but as they have withdrawn their funding as they have less and less I am now representing the Warrington Nature Conservation Forum. The Mersey Forest is in a strong position, has a great deal of strenth and depth in it's work force and enthusiastic volunteers.http://www.merseyforest.org.uk/plan/http://forum.warrington-worldwide.co.uk/index.php?/topic/10933-the-new-mersey-forest-plan-launch/#entry155198 -
DirectorMersey Gateway Environmental Trust May 2011 - Oct 2018Widnes/WarringtonRepresenting WBC as a trustee on the charities board of Directors - Our aim is to monitor and safeguard the impact of the construction of the new Mersy Gateway Bridge across the River Mersey from Widnes to Runcorn. Construction started in autumn 2013. We are about to publish our 30 Vision for the Upper Mersey (Laboratory) Estuary - the main aims of which are to mitiagte against any disturbance caused by the £600m bridge build, monitor any changes in wildlife and habitat and make sure that through the MEGT's work we increase biodiversity in the many projects that we hope to develop between Widnes/Runcorn and Warrington. We would like to develop a template that others can use or follow in future large scale construction projects.

Deputy ChairWarrington Community Transport May 2012 - Jan 2017Athlone Road - WarringtonRepresenting WBC as a Trustee in the position of Secretary on the Warrington Community Transport Board. With austerity we obviously have less funding and to make matters worse we are desparately seeking new premises. This was an eye opener - I went in as a volunteer from the council and found my self in my Mayoral year facing debts of 30k and as a trustee facing the bill amongst trustees - if it hadn't been for a previous trustee joing the team with her associates (our board members had either died, jumped ship etc) we would have sunk without trace. We managed to raise the 30k required to see us through to April 1st 2016 when our contract with the council was successfully renewed. WE also totally turned the structure of the business around and my input was the model used at the Warrington Visualy Impaired People - I was at last able to use that experience and apply it to the Community Transport - I had always struggled to understand how the transport model was supposed to work - qiute simple it was broken and didn't work. My contacts during the Mayoral year bailing us out - thanks to a very successful entrepreneur. Warrington seems to have had of late some Charitiy Financial Mares - if you get involved make sure that the voluntary organisation is a bonified Charity and a CIO i.e. this status give you some protection otherwise you might find yourself and other trustee liable through perhaps no fault of your own - check out their financial status on the Charity Commission Web site.
