SeungHoon ("Stephen") is a member of the Board of Trustees of Kyung-Hee University System (Foundation), which runs Kyung-Hee University, one of the top-ranked private universities in Korea, Kyung-Hee Medical Center, and several other schools. In addition, he is an independent outside director of the board of KT Corporation, one of Korea’s leading information, technology, and communications firms. He is also a member of the steering committee of the Korea Investment Corporation (KIC), which is Korea’s Sovereign Wealth Fund with AUM of USD200bn.Stephen worked for 11 years at global securities firms as a top-ranked analyst/strategist for Korea and nine years at SK Group, the third largest conglomerate group in Korea, as a corporate executive—executive vice president and vice president, respectively. Accordingly, SeungHoon brings a unique and rare combination of hands-on experience from the best of both the financial and industrial worlds.At SK, he was responsible for investor relations for four years and the group's M&A & growth strategy for five years, encompassing SK Corporations (later SK Holdings), SK Energy, and SK Telecom. By orchestrating and implementing the IR strategy, he was instrumental in winning the proxy fight for SK Group against Sovereign Asset Management during 2004-2005, which would go down as one of the most fierce proxy battles in the Asia Pacific region, let alone Korea. He also crafted a holding company structure at SK and successfully persuaded SK Management to improve the corporate governance of the entire group. In May 2005, he seamlessly completed the sellout transaction for SK Life Insurance without any disputes from the labor union, which was then sold to Mirae Asset Group. Before SK, he had worked on the sell side at BZW, Morgan Stanley, UBS, and JP Morgan as a banking analyst, Korea Strategist, and the Head of Korea Research. While he served as the head of Korea research at UBS and JP Morgan, he led his Korea research team to the top vote in the Asiamoney and Institutional Investor poll for three consecutive years (2000-03). He studied literature at Seoul National University of Korea and holds an M.A. in Economics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he completed the Ph.D. course requirements and an M.A. in international relations from the University of Pennsylvania.
