I graduated in May 2023 from UCF with a bachelor's degree in communication sciences and disorders. During college, I spent 4 years in a student leadership role as a volunteer coordinator of a weekly community group for stroke survivors with aphasia based out of UCF Aphasia House. It was an experience like no other: seeing survivors, co-survivors, clinicians, and student volunteers coming together to create a safe and nourishing community. My role involved a broad range of tasks - managing the RSO, fundraising, recruiting and coordinating volunteers, and planning community outings. This experience sparked my interest in client advocacy, program coordination, and community-level interventions to support our clients' self-determination and access to support. Currently I am in my Master of Social Work (MSW) at UCF to keep developing my skills in community building, as well as clinical skills for micro-level intervention. I have worked with multiple marginalized and underrepresented populations, including people with aphasia and related acquired communication disorders, adults with autism, children with special needs (Buddy Break program), and texters of all ages in crisis through volunteering on a 988 crisis line. Some of my strengths as an employee, coworker, and student are my staunch commitment to ethical practice, reliability and dependability, and compassion for people of different backgrounds, abilities, sociodemographics, and beliefs. I look forward to the opportunities afforded through my graduate program and the skills I am acquiring to become an effective and culturally-sensitive practitioner.
