With nearly two decades of academic research experience, Dr. Sexton applies microeconomic theory and statistical methods to analyze firm and consumer behavior, evaluate policy impacts and market outcomes, and identify cause-and-effect relationships. With expertise in environmental and competition policy, he has advised clients on class certification, liability, and damages for matters relating to product liability, renewable energy policy, greenhouse gas regulation, air and water pollution, agricultural trade, and competition in telecommunications, two-sided platforms, health information technology, and agricultural markets. A visiting associate professor at UC Berkeley, he is formerly a tenured faculty member at Duke University where his research considered such topics as industrial organization of energy markets, environmental pollution control, energy technology adoption, and agricultural production and its environmental impacts. Dr. Sexton’s research is published in leading academic journals, including the Journal of Economic Perspectives, the Review of Economics and Statistics, the Journal of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists, the American Journal of Agricultural Economics, and Marketing Science. His work and commentary have been featured in US and international media outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and NPR. Dr. Sexton was previously a Faculty Fellow of the Duke University Energy Initiative and an inaugural Duke University Climate Change Faculty Fellow. He was also an Executive Fellow in the office of California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, a national collegiate triathlon champion, and member of the USA Triathlon National Team.
