About Susan Frikken

Being a generalist physical therapist suits my interests and curiosity in many realms. My goal is to integrate the arts and nature with therapeutic practice, helping to change the way of health and wellness care in our country. I am able to blend work and life experiences into my therapy practice, in the fertile environment of the Madison area. My goal has always been to serve the community in which I live, and I can do that here. Additionally, I am forging partnerships with individuals and organizations in wider circles. I have been a private practice massage therapist since 2000, and my techniques include myofascial massage, Thai massage, visceral manipulation, and the Schroth method of conservative scoliosis management. I’ve also worked in non-profit health care, support group facilitation, and had multiple jobs as coach or instructor, including on the ball field, in the classroom, gym, and ballroom dance studio.Though I’m a generalist, I am developing niches. People often say, “I chose you because you are a physical therapist who is also a massage therapist” (or vice versa). I get to work with people who need or choose hands-on (manual) therapy. I frequently coordinate care with other therapists to co-treat clients. This has led to rich collaborative professional relationships and rewarding healing client relationships. My goal has always been to provide the most whole therapy, while helping them discover the tools to help themselves. Together, we are stronger and provide better care, with the client at the center. Areas of special interest and initiatives: Postural assessment and corrections including scoliosis work; balance enhancement and falls resilience, and building collaborative community.
