How to take waste products from the agricultural and fermentation industry and turn it into a valuable resource. Our goal is take the crude proteome from waste products, characterize it, and find applications for embedded, bioactive peptides in other industries such as food and feed. The Project is carried out in collaboration with the Danish Technological University (DTU) and a range of industrial partners. External Lecturer And CollaboratorDansk Politi Apr 2010 - Dec 2014DenmarkEducation of Police Officers at various Danish Police Districts as part of the "Dialogue-Based" concept implementation. The education was molded by Jonas Havelund (SDU) and Kristian Rasmussen (SDU) and was decided to be a nation-wide concept in 2013. The education concerns crowd-control and how problems can be avoided by means of dialogue and respect. Although designed to be generally applicable to large crowds, my contribution specifically concerning football supporters. My primary task is highlighting the POV of the active football fan on the policing at football matches; past, present, and future. -

Ph.D. ResearcherUniversity Of Copenhagen Dec 2010 - Dec 2013Copenhagen Area, DenmarkSynthesis of fluorescent, peptide-stabilized silver nanoclusters (Ag-NCs). Adapting the solid-phase peptide synthesis methodology to allow for on-resin synthesis and evaluation of fluorescent Ag-NCs. This approach was applied for synthesis of a combinatorial peptide library, screening, and selection of promising candidates. Candidates were subsequently characterized (optical and physical) in vitro and subjected to sequence/structure analysis to establish tentative design guidelines for rational design.Teaching in both theoretical and practical part of BSc courses in inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, and spectroscopy.Highlights from evaluation:Assessment Committee:Prof. Fernando Albericio, University of BarcelonaAssoc. Prof. Victoria Birkedal, Aarhus UniversityAssoc. Prof. Peter W. Thulstrup (chair), University of CopenhagenThe thesis represents an account of an interdisciplinary research endeavour, where the candidate displays detailed insight into several disciplines such as nanoscience, fluorescence, and other physical and analytical methods, as well as peptide synthesis.Parts 1 and 3 (introduction chapters, red) are correctly written, flow well and describe perfectly the "state-of-the-art" of these disciplines. As very limited information is available about what kind of peptide can stabilize Ag-NCs, the design of the library has been very imaginative in fixing the scaffold and the doing different amino acid scannings. Furthermore, the "one-bead one-compound" method chosen for preparation of the library is the most adequate in basis of previous knowledge. The final results have supported the strategy. This thesis opens a new research line which looks very promising. The presented developments and findings constitute a significant contribution to the field. At the oral defence, Simon held an excellent lecture. In the following questioning and discussion he demonstrated an impressive insight into the work performed and its perspectives. -
