I managed the Service Desk for the RSPB. This is a team of seven Service Desk Analysts providing first line support to 3000 staff and volunteers throughout the UK.The desk has evolved over a number years meeting the challenges of a growing organisation and the changing demands. With changes to the way we work and as new projects come and go introducing new technologies and software.There have been a number of staff changes over the years to deal with and we are now fully involved in using the National Apprentice Scheme with two apprentices helping out at any one time. Always a challenge.It is a busy desk supporting well over 300 applications, some in house developed ones, 250 sites from Lands End to Orkney and Shetland with everywhere in between. The nature of the work of the organisation means that some of these are rather remote.The desk are members of the SDI with a number of SDA qualified staff, and in July this year we hosted the SDI Charity and non-profit event where I spoke about "The evolving Service Desk".
