The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Northern California (NC) is an enduring guardian of justice, fairness, equality, and freedom, working to protect and advance civil liberties for all Californians. *Examined and analyzed quantitative and qualitative data and policies, practices, and procedures in Orange County, CA. Identified themes in the charging schedule of the Office of the District Attorney to develop a comprehensive 74-page report of the findings, including making substantive policy recommendations.

The ACLU Campaign for Smart Justice is an unprecedented, multiyear effort to reduce the U.S. jail and prison population by 50% and to combat racial disparities in the criminal justice system. *Managed and coordinated the ACLU of Hawai'i’s first Honolulu County prosecutorial candidate forum. The forum centered impacted voices, garnered over 5,000 views on Facebook, received positive feedback from partners and viewers, and secured six of the seven candidates’ participation. This was done in five weeks, was fully remote, and during a pandemic.*Provided organizational support to volunteer leaders for the Hawaii Island prosecutorial candidate forum and managed the run of show the day of. *Conducted reentry related research and analysis at the state and county level

This built stronger partnerships with community partners and organizations, resulting in overall increased capacity to accomplish the collaborative goals of the ACLU-NC and coalition partners. *Designed and launched the ACLU-NC Speaker’s Bureau to build more capacity to, educate and engage the public, serve as a vehicle to share ACLU updates, and provide opportunities for action to help meet organizational policy goals. Created a 26-page resource guide with instruction on how to speak on behalf of the ACLU-NC. *Served as liaison between the ACLU-NC and the public for wide-ranging needs, such as speaker, know your rights, and materials requests. *Led and supported multiple get out the vote efforts, including phone and text banks, canvassing, and outreach. *Served as cross-departmental lead to provide training and organizational support for 18 volunteer chapters, including support to chapters engaging in local monitoring and advocacy and community education and visibility.

A preliminary research project conducted by Dr. Natalie Boero of the Sociology Department in order to examine student retention, specifically with Blacks and Latino/a/x's, who have a lower than average retention rate at San Jose State University (SJSU). *Successfully conducted in-depth semi-structured interviews with four Latino/a/x college students.*Summarized data that gave insight into the unique perspectives of several Latino/a/x students who come from a group that has lower than average retention rates at SJSU.
