Biodesign Australia brings together Biodesign programs from around Australia, including programs in Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney to develop collaborative programs and to share resources and best practice.The Perth Biodesign course brings together people from a broad range of disciplines with a passion for discovery and development in medical devices. Participants form multidisciplinary teams, and learn to create and innovate within the medical space to develop their own novel solutions for unmet medical needs. Participants also learn how to become biomedical entrepreneurs, plan their early stage commercialisation and develop relationships with commercial partners and investors.

CREATING DETECTION TECHNOLOGY TO SUPPORT PATIENT CARECreavo Medical Technologies is an innovative British company developing diagnostics technology for acute medical settings.The company was set up to commercialise technology that was developed at the University of Leeds by Professor Ben Varcoe that will revolutionise front-line patient triage for chest pain; speeding decision-making, offering better patient management and crucially saving time and NHS resources.

C-Capture Ltd is a spin-out company from the Chemistry Department at the University of Leeds. Utilising their extensive knowledge of CO2 (carbon dioxide) based chemistry, they have adopted a bottom-up approach to designing solvent systems for the removal of CO2 from gas streams. C-Capture’s proprietary technology aims to remove or ‘scrub’ CO2 from gas streams, preventing it from entering the Earth’s atmosphere. C-Capture has developed novel solvents that as CO2 passes through, it is reversibly absorbed onto/into the mixture. Once the CO2 has been ‘captured’ it can be separated and then released as a pure stream and transported for safe, long-term storage or used in other manufacturing processes. One of the main uses for carbon capture technologies is in the field of CCS - or Carbon Capture and Storage - which aims to prevent CO2 that is generated in the production of electricity, mainly from coal-fired power stations, from entering the atmosphere. This technology significantly reduces the amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere – by up to 95% – and makes electricity generation a much more environmentally friendly process.

ScanNav uses deep- and machine-learning based algorithms to automatically assess and grade ultrasound images to provide scan assessment and audit of obstetric ultrasound scanning.Intelligent Ultrasound was acquired by Medaphor Group plc, the global provider of advanced ultrasound skills training simulators for medical professionals, in October 2017.
