Software Development Engineer Iii

Current

Seattle, Wa, Us

▪ Disambiguated requirements for data synchronization and compliance to support EHR integration. Worked with stakeholders to deep dive into clinical workflows and use cases, propose new UX flows, and design technical solutions that could be launched in phases. Defined an 18-month roadmap for deliveries.▪ Created high level designs for two integration deliverables – Encounter Creation and Order Ingestion. These designs introduced foundational components for consuming events of clinical data changed in the EHR and for creating documentation entities in the EHR and mapping those to internal entities. Led development with 5 engineers. Reduced documentation setup time by 60% (from ~3s to 1s, 12 clicks to 1).▪ Proposed new data modeling for clinical data storage to decouple unique documentation use cases and to enable independent state management of clinical data entities.▪ Became certified as an AWS Security Guardian. Oversaw security reviews and GEAR compliance reviews for a new event-based architecture that would enable Identity data to be synchronized across differently-optimized datastores.▪ Implemented and launched a workflow improvement which relied on DDB snapshot functionality rather than table scans to send data to the Anti-Entropy system, allowing the data to be compared daily rather than weekly.▪ Investigated and root-caused a propagation delay seen in the event bus architecture. Proposed a new integration method relying on Kinesis Data Streams and prototyped this solution, observing a 95% reduction in latency.

Software Development Engineer Ii

Seattle, Wa, Us

▪ Designed an identity and access management system for Amazon Care, including onboarding processes, login and authentication flows for two user populations (customers and clinicians), and custom authorization based on roles and relationships to resources. Led the development with 4 engineers.▪ Proposed federating from an external identity provider as a way to consolidate identities for clinicians. Convinced leadership this was important in order to support access to 3rd party systems, simplify identity management, and enforce hardware MFA. Designed and oversaw implementation of this project.▪ Drove a team-wide initiative to reduce API latencies, including investment in eager initialization, building orchestration layers, supporting pagination and batching, and adding token claims to reduce network calls. Reduced p99 latency for 8 key customer operations by 75% (from ~8s to < 2s).

Jan 2018 - Oct 2019

Software Development Manager Ii

Seattle, Wa, Us

▪ Launched new architecture in air-gapped region, achieving parity for 5 systems after 2+ years.▪ Drove a project to automate regression testing and improve deployment processes. Designed pipeline validation tests using known scenarios and mocking dependency calls. Worked with team to automated CM validations and launch a map-reduce diffing tool that decreased testing time from 3 days to 3 hours. ▪ Produced a vision document outlining architectural considerations and categorizing current and proposed pricing models in generic ways in order to improve flexibility and reduce time to market.▪ Created high level design for a new system to consume events regarding organizational changes and store a representation of account structures for billing. This decouples accounts and computation and enables flexibility to onboard new account structures.▪ Facilitated several cross organization projects including redesigning the recurring fee experience (impacted Marketplace, Sentinel, and AWS Support), exposing Unbilled Usage (worked with DW) and amortizing support computation for RIs (impacted EC2, AWS Support, and Enterprise Support).

May 2017 - Jan 2018

Software Development Engineer Ii

Seattle, Wa, Us

▪ Worked with several senior engineers and a principal to redefine the way contracts are represented within computation systems. This involved changing the data model to preserve the raw data for auditability and better decision making, defining a stricter interface and pushing it upstream to keep the majority of the systems agnostic to changes, improving error handling and determinism of logic, and reducing the memory footprint by runtime computations and diffing logic. Decreased time to collect and create datatypes by 31% and enabled computing large accounts with many RI purchases (such as CDO MAWS), which previously failed due to OOM.▪ Designed and implemented a new checksum-based auditor that ran inline during bill generation, enabling deprecation of the previous batch-driven auditor. Removed dependency on legacy MySQL database and reduced bill run processing time by ~10 hours.

Jun 2015 - May 2017

Software Development Engineer I

Seattle, Wa, Us

▪ Worked on the design, development, and maintenance of large-scale backend systems used for bill computation in AWS (handling up to 40,000 tps and 16% month over month growth rate).▪ Designed, implemented, and launched a rearchitected pipeline to decouple and independently scale processing components and move to an event driven computation system. Reduced latency by 44%.▪ Led the planning effort for the bill run process after launch. This involved evaluating the auditing story, developing tools to verify completeness, defining new SLAs, and determining the schedule.▪ Devised and drove the delivery of 3 security goals in 2014 to help reduce vulnerabilities in all environments. Became a bar raiser in my organization to improve the quality of deployments. Led the effort to authenticate calls to an internal service and successfully migrated 17 clients in 2 months.
