I assist board certified attorney, Kristin Figueroa-Contreras, in handling a wide array of immigration matters. As a senior paralegal, I am responsible for overseeing the firm’s federal and state criminal defense cases. I draft legal documents, prepare for court proceedings, review discovery, and help come up with strategy. I also serve as the chief technology advisor for the firm and work closely with Ms. Figueroa-Contreras to develop business, productivity, and marketing strategies for the firm.

I founded this program along with Ambassador Robert “Skipp” Orr during the 2020 pandemic. We sought to connect his fellow ambassadors and high level diplomats with students in the FAU community. Following Ambassador Orr’s death, I have worked to expand this program so as to continue Skipp’s legacy. This program aims to connect current and recent students with an interest in international affairs with established professionals around the world whom are eager to help pass the torch to the next generation of global leaders.

As a member of the steering committee, I work closely with school administrators to foster FAU’s growing pre-law community. PLUS coordinates and provides a variety of services to aid students in three objectives: 1) Exploring the legal field; 2) Identifying FAU resources; and 3) Building a foundation for law school applications. It is, at its essence, a university institution designed to help FAU students who are considering law school at all ends of their journey. A core tenet of the PLUS initiative is to help students explore their law-related interests and optimize their undergraduate experience in preparation for law school.

I worked closely with our faculty advisors to manage and oversee all aspects of the journal. This ranged from helping organize our monthly meetings, arranging for speakers to talk about the law, and ensuring that the organization produces a quality journal. In a year of change, with our founding faculty advisor retiring, I helped develop strategies to ensure that the organization would have a strong and robust future. I sought to begin an annual legal symposium that would bring legal minds to campus. Such efforts resulted in our partnering with the Student Government to bring Boca Raton mayor, Scott Singer, to campus for the first time. The mayor used his experience and knowledge to comment on how law and politics can be used to improve your community. Unfortunaty, the rest of the symposium was disrupted by COVID-19.

I was responsible for monitoring the organization's financial status. My responsibilities also include submitting all relevant financial documents to COSO (the university's student organization office) and negotiating with them for necessary funds. My role as treasurer also put me on the Editing Board. I worked closely with the Editor in Chief and with the faculty advisors. I also contributed in planning our monthly meetings and securing attorneys and judges as guest speakers. My leadership led to our organization getting nominated for FAU’s Organization of the Year during the 2018-2019 academic year.

I work alongside attorney Walter A. Reynoso in a variety of tasks, including maintaining and organizing files, conducting legal research, and drafting and submitting documents.I also provide valuable assistance in preparing for and conducting client meetings, depositions, court hearings and trials. As primary liaison, I am responsible for maintaining communication with our clients, opposing counsel, and the Court or any other agency.Our firm believes that even the smallest of cases deserve our full attention. I am responsible for submitting and monitoring all Seal and Expunge applications. This is a three phase process that can take at least three months and requires careful vigilance.

I was responsible for monitoring and drafting cease and desist letters for violators of the BBB's copyright and trademark properties, including its logo, name, and reputation.In my position, I learned how an organization can protect its intellectual assets and reputation.
