About Duane Moore
Duane Moore graduated from Oklahoma State University with B.S. degrees in both Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering in 2006. Duane obtained a M.S. in Aerospace Engineering from UCLA in 2008. Graduate work at UCLA was in the field of Fluid Dynamics, with emphasis in high-speed and hypersonic gas dynamics.Duane worked at Edwards AFB as a USAF (civilian) P&FQ FTE for 8 years. Duane was primarily involved in the T&E of the F-16 Automatic Ground Collision Avoidance System (AGCAS) conducted at the NASA D/AFRC and the 416th FLTS. Duane participated in all aspects of this effort, including model-based design using Matlab/Simulink and Birhle D-Six, test and safety planning for high-risk flight tests, test execution, post-test data analysis, authoring technical reports and flight manuals, and substantiating MIL-HDBK-516C airworthiness compliance. Duane was the USAF SME for the F-16 AGCAS at the time the system was fielded in 2014. In the time since, the AGCAS has prevented the loss of 10 aircraft and 11 pilots. Duane and the extended F-16/F-35 AGCAS team were awarded the 2018 Robert J. Collier Trophy, a prestigious annual award for the greatest achievement in aeronautics or astronautics in America.Duane then worked 5 years at the Bombardier Flight Test Center in Wichita, Kansas. While at BFTC Duane was the lead FTE for Rockwell-Collins avionics testing on the Challenger 350, Challenger 650, and Global 7500. Duane has over 100 hours as aircrew on Challengers and over 550 hours on the Global 7500. Duane was responsible for all avionics and electrical testing on the Global 7500 from its first flight through certification by TC, FAA, and EASA. Following initial type certification, Duane lead the testing of the Enhanced Flight Vision System (EFVS) on the Global 7500. Duane also provided flight planning and aircraft performance optimization to the Bombardier flight demonstration crews during several record-setting flights for both range and speed on the Global 7500.Duane transitioned to the National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) in 2019 as a multi-disciplinary engineering consultant. At NIAR Duane has supported flight control system design for Stratolaunch, CFD simulations for the U.S. Army and Air Force, thermal simulations for Spirit Aerosystems, and conceptual design of autonomous military aircraft for AFRL. Duane is also part of a small team of FTEs that are standing up flight test capabilities at NIAR. The team are busy establishing processes, outfitting telemetry facilities, and actively conducting the first ever flight tests by NIAR.
