I study how AI is changing the institution of science — the emerging field I call the “Science of AI-mediated Science.” I am interested in the question: Can AI do science? Can we create mini versions of AI agents that are hominem silici – computational analogues of humans – who can autonomously interact and collaborate with each other and do research like a PhD student does. In short, I am trying to understand if an AI system can replace me. I also study scientific collaborations, misinformation, and AI ethics. It might seem like a bit of a mixed bag, but trust me, it’s all connected. These issues are crucial to understanding how AI influences not just the science we do, but the way we do it—and how it can go wrong. I am a researcher at heart, and have worked for more than 5 years as a researcher in academia. I love playing with large scale datasets to study dynamics of human behavior. Leveraging my background and experience in computer science, data science, social science, machine learning, language technologies, and information science, I often think about a problem from different perspectives.
