Initially joined as a Trainee for six months before acquiring the post of Junior Research Associate in Biosimilars Department. Duties involve Gene cloning, Gene amplification, DNA Extraction, Quantitative Analysis, Transfection, Optimising protein expression and maintenance of cultures, Cell-sorting (By using BD FACS), Cell imaging, Carrying out shake-flask studies,Running and maintaining micro-scale bioreactors (Ambr), Stability studies, Compilation and analysis of data, Protein quantification using Octet, Media screening and adaptation.

Duties involved promoting university of Birmingham to prospective students, parents and teachers, deliver presentations drawing on own experience of education, give lab demonstration, to be a student role model encouraging young people to consider University of Birmingham as a viable and attractive option, act as a tour guide giving visitors an informative overview of the university campus and telling them about student life, answering student and parent queries.

The research was part of a larger project on the structural and biochemical mechanism involved in the biosynthesis of the antibiotic mupirocin. The project lasted for eight weeks which was supported by a grant from society of biology which i successfully applied for. I learnt and applied the skills necessary for comparative/homology modelling of proteins, including the use of sequence alignment, sequence threading, secondary structure prediction and comparative modelling software.
