Namashkaram.I take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Shahnaz Ansari. I am perhaps one of the few girls in a country of a billion people, who has successfully earned a Masters and B.ed Degree in Sanskrit from Delhi University. How often do you find a Muslim girl teaching Sanskrit and Hindi to young children? I love what I do, which is to teach Hindi to young children in schools. But I have never been able to answer the question, "Why do I do what I do"? Is it because of fulfilling my financial obligations? Is it because I need to fit into society as a teacher who spends a lifetime teaching at a conventional school? Or is it because I dare not question life and instead continue living without purpose, like so many teachers do in India? And then one fine day, I remember my light bulb moment of self awareness. In that moment of me facing my truth, I stood staring at the light of a self awakening, brightly shinning upon my mind. The revelation was that I refused to teach the subject of Hindi in a hostile environment, where rushing through a curriculum and forcing students to memorize rather than to learn, became a way of classroom life. Instead I opted out of the prison of schools and walked into the freedom of open spaces and fertile minds flourishing within the compounds of an NGO. My mantra of life now was to have children adopt and adapt to becoming Hindi Poets. That's right. I wanted children in my classes to become Poets using the Hindi language.​And thus the birth of my very own small start-up called Arth : poetry workshops in Hindi designed for NGO kids.Thank you for going through my story.
