In collaboration with the CL&D and University of Toronto Scarborough Project Description The COVID-19 pandemic revealed and continues to expose a great deal of inequity in terms of access to digital technology, which has become a necessity from work to education, and health and well-being. But access is only part of the challenges, as users still face numerous barriers related to design, language, gender, race and class biases. So what would digital equitable policy looks like? And how do we better implement digital literacy programs to empower citizens in social participation? How can we center digital inclusion in public policy-making? Students involved with this project will be investigating these and related questions.Conducted research regarding Toronto’s inequity in digital access among immigrant populations while finding solutions to create community programs for career developmentUtilized logic model and theory of change processes to analyze and observe active engagement in the Regent Park community resulting in a strong analysis of community membersActively working with a research group to ensure strong teamwork and finding tangible results Finalized and presented research findings to the Toronto Centre of Learning and Development Board providing program development solutions and receiving feedback

The Global Classroom for Democracy Innovation (GCDI) brings together students from multiple global locations in a real-time collaborative online forum for crosscultural engagement and global learning, rooted in design thinking. The series is framed around practically engaging with the concepts of democracy, sustainability, and inclusion; and will ask you to explore your own positionality and locality as you develop a group project proposal to be showcased at the end of the course.
