Shahrima Tanjin Arni is a Lecturer at department of law, University of Dhaka. She completed her LLB and LLM in International Law from the University of Dhaka. She then pursued LLM in International Law at the University of Cambridge as a Commonwealth-Cambridge Trust Scholar. She is an honorary Professor Sir David Williams Law Scholar at Wolfson College, Cambridge and recipient of Barrister Nora Sharif Gold Medal 2019 awarded by the University of Dhaka.In 2019, she was elected as the first ever International Affairs Secretary of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU). As a student representative, she pushed the agenda of providing official email address to all students at University of Dhaka, which was later implemented by the university authority. She was also a Co-Founder and later the Editor-in-Chief of Dhaka University Law and Politics Review (DULPR). In Cambridge, she was a Conference Co-convener of the Cambridge International Law Journal (CILJ).Before coming to Cambridge she was also Co-Lead of Research Wing at A.S & Associates, a top-tire corporate law firm in Bangladesh. Previously, she has also worked as a Research Associate at A.S & Associates focusing on corporate governance, securitization, bankruptcy, employment etc.Arni’s core research interest includes international investment law, international and European Union trade law. She recently worked on the study titled ‘Evaluating the Feasibility and drafting a Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) between the European Union and Bangladesh for Promotion, Protection and Regulation of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)’ initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES).Apart from the love for law and politics, Arni is an ardent admirer of Nazrul Giti and Persian poetry. In her free time, she manages a Bangladeshi rock band Coleslaw and loves jamming with her friends.
