Profile bio

About Sameer Shaikh

My career interests are mainly focused on Economics & Finance research, with previous experience as a Research Assistant to Professor Ronan Lyons in Trinity College Dublin, focusing on issues in the Irish Housing market, and Irish Economic History. Have expertise in R, SQL, & Excel, with intermediate experience in Python and Matlab.I graduated as an Economics major (First Class Honours) as part of the Politics, Philosophy, Economics, & Sociology (PPES) programme at Trinity College Dublin in 2021. I took a strong focus towards Quantitative Methods throughout, taking modules in Econometrics, Advanced Econometrics, & Mathematical Economics, as well as learning R, Stata, & Excel, so I could better understand how Economists applied their toolkit to analyse data and recommend better and more effective solutions to real life problems. My main interests in studying how this toolkit was applied to the real world were centred on the areas of Political Economy & Development Economics; In 2020, I was awarded the P.J. Drudy Prize for achieving the highest grade among my class in the modules of Economics of Less Developed Countries.Outside of my career interests, I have a wealth of voluntary experience - from engaging in the Student Union, to managing finances for the Student Economic Review, and being an experienced public speaker and volunteer for the College Historical Society.
