I joined the company as a Technical Advisor and rapidly advanced to positions of greater responsibility, including Senior Technical Advisor and Principal Advisor. As a member of the group leadership team, I had strategic and operational responsibility for planning, program management/delivery, operational improvement including new processes, procedures and practices, and stakeholder engagement.I represented the organization and New Zealand at domestic and international meetings and conferences and chaired the Technical Working Group at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). I represented New Zealand delegation at IMO’s Sub-Committees as Head of New Zealand Delegation: Human Element, Training and Watchkeeping (HTW), Implementation of IMO Instruments (III), Carriage of Cargoes and Containers (CCC) and IMO Committee: Maritime Safety Committee.Relevant committees included the Compliance Intervention Panel, Port State Control Forum, ROs/Surveyors Forum, Maritime Examiners Forum, International Engagement Governance Group and the International Work Allocation Group. In this context, I furthered New Zealand’s maritime industry in Asia via stakeholder engagement & education with industry and government, promote sustainable fishing practices, and contributed to ongoing ESG initiatives. I have led major strategic initiatives focusing on decarbonisation and strengthened governance within the shipping industry, and elevated organisational capability and performance, including realisation of opportunities for significant improvement, leveraging new technology and design thinking. 2021 and 2022 Chief Executive Awards Winner for performance.

Appointed to lead multiple projects and supervise resources, including personnel, materials and equipment, and new partnerships with vendors, suppliers and customers, I increased revenue significantly, contributing 110 suggestions to improve efficiency and productivity of proprietary in-house software and implementing best practices for management reporting, inventory control, logistics planning and purchasing. I reduced costs while maintaining profit margin and 100% on-time delivery through creative design and manufacturing solutions. I also ensured on-time and high-quality deliveries, developing new partnerships with >10 vendors, suppliers and customers, negotiating improved terms and expanding supplier database.

I was hired to uncover new growth and revenue opportunities, serving as a subject matter expert, utilising blend of sales, business development and project management skills to deliver up-to-date technical and product information to the sales planning team for clients’ product quotes. I drove a 15% increase in quote acceptance, engaging with sales team on planning to construct effective responses to technical inquiries and RFPs. I increased profitability 20% and generated new sales leads, identifying manufacturing companies requiring machinery, conducting market research and generating reports on technological advancements. I improved customer satisfaction 40%, collaborating within the sales team to comprehend customer needs.

My role was to lead a wide range of projects and supervise resources, including personnel, materials and equipment while monitoring progress of projects and ensure on-time completion. I managed and successfully delivered design, procurement, delivery, commissioning, and risk for 5+ key projects, and ensured on-schedule completion of work without incurring any losses. I consistently improved quality standards, leading project teams and providing valuable feedback to enhance the design and process systems in accordance with ISO 9001 guidelines. I increased customer satisfaction levels 20% and provided thought leadership by representing the company at international marine and oil & gas industry exhibitions.

I was hired by a Swedish controllable pitch propeller manufacturer for the marine industry to establish new design and production departments to expand the Swedish footprint in the Asian market and contribute to product development. I increased company revenue by participating at industry events in Singapore and Europe, strengthening stakeholder relationships. I achieved cost savings and improved operational efficiency by moving development of production design for the Asia market from Sweden to Singapore.

Directed a 5-member team in managing operations and maintenance of oil tankers, ensuring the achievement of commercial goals, safe navigation, and timely cargo delivery. Ensured shipboard adherence to maritime regulations set by flag state administrations, the IMO, and port state authorities, ensuring safe operations in international waters.
