Provide an initial response to complaints andqueries from patients and doctors and refer to more senior staff whennecessary- Sort and distribute Biochemistry and Haematology patient reports generatedfrom the Pathology computer

- To identify and sort all samples received.- To label and centrifuge samples in preparation for testing.- To identify improperly labelled specimens and to deal with them according to the department’s procedure. To investigate mislabelled or mislaid samples and inform requester as necessary.- To charge patient accounts using Meditech.- To input data regarding patient test requirements accurately into the laboratory computer system according to procedures.- To ensure the prompt dispatch of samples needing to be referred to external laboratories and maintain accurate records of work sent out of the department.- To organise and prioritise own work practices to ensure adequate turnaround times are maintained.- To check discrepancies and alert senior staff in a timely manner.- To answer telephone calls from nursing, medical staff and to take add-on requests from doctors and nursing staff.- To be able to follow laboratory procedures and to use own discretion to prioritise own work.- To assist section supervisor in clerical duties such as, but not limited to, monthly staff rota, form checking.- To check fridge and freezer temperatures and notify senior BMS immediately of any equipment failure or problems.- To undertake routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment such as centrifuges according to laboratory procedures.- To carry out urine and MRSA culture and sensitivity plating- To load and run patient samples on Abbot, Vitros, Sysmex and Stago analysers respectively- To carry out the daily maintenance and top up reagents and supplies on Abbot and Sysmex Analysers- To carry out routine QC tests and calibrations for reagent on Abbot analysers
