My main job duties are to provide patients or their Representative with cost estimates for their procedures and surgeries under the UNC Healthcare System. This is accomplished by either calling outbound from our scheduled workque or we also receive inbound calls requesting estimates. I verify insurance benefits via Epic RTE, insurance provider portal, phone or Passport. I collect money for procedures and post payment in our Epic system. Also, due to COVID-19 my Department is assisting the Registration Department with Pre-registration for scheduled appointments.

Travel to several primary and specialty clinics as back up of fill in for front office staff. Checking in/out patients, insurance verification via phone/internet/online, request/maintain medical records, account collections, post payments, submit claims to billing, answer telephone inquires.

Registration: Emergency room, outpatient, surgery and inpatient departments. Recorded patient demographics, insurance and private health information into hospital database, explained hospital documents to patient/guarantor, provided consent, disclosure and authorization forms to patients/guarantors, maintained HIPPA, EMTALA compliance. Verified insurance benefits and obtained authorizations via internet resources and telephone. Discharged patients, including financial counseling; requesting patient payments, co-pays, coinsurance, deductibles, making sure patients are financially cleared before discharge, entered ICD-9, CPT codes. Filed/maintained patient medical records, answered telephone inquires, provided customer service to hospital staff, visitors and vendors.

Provided administrative support in a secured inpatient medical unit in psychiatry. Screened visitors to protect patient privacy, prepared charts for new admissions, transcribed physician orders, charted vitals in patient charts, maintained files and medical records, discharged patients from unit, answered telephone inquires, ordered office and patient care supplies.

Provided administrative support in a mammography outpatient office. Greeted patients and visitors, interviewed patients and or their representative to obtain accurate demographic information and signatures on consent forms, maintained patient confidentiality, verified patient insurance information when needed, scheduled appointments for exams, radiology charge entry, collected co-pays and deductibles, answered telephone inquires, documented medical record requests from patients, maintained medical records, traveled on mammography mobile unit to different companies around the Dallas Fort Worth area as a receptionist.
