He worked with me in the Machine Learning Data Platform team in Amazon Alexa to build a new data platform solution which would cater to the growing scale of Alexa. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Shalin and he proved to be a valuable asset to our team. During his internship, he demonstrated strong computer science fundamentals and was not only able to complete the project assigned to him, but enhanced the scope of the project making improvements to the initial design he was tasked to implement. He was able to bring himself up to speed with new technology stacks very quickly and was never afraid of diving deep into the source code and documentation to figure out solutions to problems he faced on his way to implementing the project. I find his ability to take an ambiguous high-level design and implement it with little or no supervision, to be extremely rare and valuable for someone of his experience and age. Not only did he demonstrate technical expertise during the implementation, but also excellent management and organization skills. He was able to work around dependencies that were blocking him by restructuring and reorganizing parts of the project. His focus on thorough documentation made it all the more easier to transfer the ownership of the project at the end of his internship. His work during his internship has proven crucial and our team is building on it to scale Alexa’s data platform."
