It took 13 years of working in the Architecture and Design Industry, and the crash of 2008 for me to realize that there were more important things in life, other than meeting deadlines and completing projects. If you are fortunate, you will discover your purpose early on in life, and I was fortunate to find mine.I discovered my purpose when I connected with some folks at the Atlanta Fuller Center for Housing, Inc. in 2009. Giving the gift of home repairs to families in need was an eye-opening experience, to say the least. It was also mind-blowing to see the appalling conditions that families here in the United States live in. You need not go more than a few miles from where you live to find families in need. The mission field is right here and you don't need to go abroad!Volunteering with the Fuller Center for Housing in 2009 was just the tip of the iceberg. Mark Galey and I co-founded the Henry County Chapter along with some very dear friends. That first summer we completed 15 home repair/cleanup projects in 5 days with approximately 150 volunteers!! Just goes to show what can be accomplished when people work towards common goals. Mind-blowing!Switching careers was not easy. I've spent the last 12 years in the non-profit world, learning, testing, failing, recovering, succeeding, planning, envisioning. There is so much to do!!! I am now back designing, implementing, building, forging, creating, collaborating, and continuing on this amazing journey. Steven Covey says "Life is not accumulation, it's about contribution", and I try to live every day following that mantra. when I'm not doing Architecture I am serving as the Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus at my local Parish. Fish Fry Fridays are fun but handing out checks to local charities is extremely rewarding.........the journey continues.
