Swedish Geological (SGAB) is a private consultancy firm that provides services in the fields of Mining Sector Development, Geoscientific Investigations, Environmental Management and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) worldwide. The firm has its roots in the Geological Survey of Sweden, which was founded in 1858.Clients include agencies such as the World Bank, Europe Aid (EU), and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, as well as minerals and environmental regulators in the recipient countries and listed mining and metals companies.Shane’s role as a Project Manager involved the management of all phases of international development and company projects, including project design, recruiting of experts, preparing tender documentation, and managing project staff, budgets, work scopes and reporting. Shane also executed technical components within these projects including the training of environmental authorities, environmental and safety auditing, contaminated sites investigations, groundwater investigations and environmental monitoring.

Woodside is the largest operator of oil and gas production in Australia. It is also Australia’s largest independent dedicated oil and gas company.Shane’s role at Woodside involved the management of environmental and safety issues associated with the operation of five offshore oil and gas production platforms located on Australia's Northwest Shelf. Responsibilities included:• Compliance- both internal (ISO and company HSEMS) and government regulatory,• Preparation of environmental management plans (submitted to regulators), • Environmental impact investigations,• Supervision of consultants and research programs, • Safety and environmental auditing, • Conduct of risk assessment studies and workshops, and• Ad hoc environmental advice to company asset managers and engineers.Key outcomes included:• Author of major study of drill cuttings and fluid volumes, composition, chemistry and potential impacts for two of Woodside’s oldest production platforms. • Technical review and completion of a major study on the environmental impacts of produced formation water (PFW) at four of Woodside’s offshore production facilities. Included water chemistry, discharge dispersion modelling and ecotoxicology components. • Environmental risk assessment review for Woodside’s production facilities involving workshop and desktop evaluation of the impact of engineering upgrades, major drilling and modification projects conducted on the platforms over a four year period.• Conversion of the regulatory HSE Case documents for four offshore production facilities into Environment Plans, and their submission to the Department of Minerals and Petroleum Resources for approval.
