After a 15+ year career in hospitality management, I transitioned to the telecommunications industry over 15 years ago. Running my own telco business in rural South Australia, I was hands on across multiple technologies, doing both carrier and premise works, from SCADA rooms of wind farm control centres to satellite dishes on farm houses. Seeking to develop on my management experience, I took a role with Skybridge as Field Workforce Manager, looking after the workforce operations centre in Tullamarine. An internal move to a role managing technician engagement, recruitment and training opened my eyes to the training industry and after building the workforce in preparation for one of Skybridge’s biggest contracts at the time, Digital Switchover Melbourne, I left Skybridge to focus on telecommunications training, spending time as GM of Operations for the newly formed ASG Integracom. I left ASG Integracom to work on some consultancy projects, including the development of the HFC Network Technician training program for JB Hunter. Stepping in to the role of CEO at JB Hunter in April 2020, the COVID pandemic was a challenging time to lead an organisation. It was during this time I really honed my management style, leading from the front with a high level of forward-facing communication, to staff, students and other stakeholder, doing so with a personal and caring touch, not hiding from the many difficult calls that needed to be made. I was able to develop and deploy VR based training for a large delivery partner workforce. Sending 300+ headsets across all parts of Australia, we continued to train the 1,500+ strong workforce remotely, leading to greater profit margins for JB Hunter and a reduced expense for the client. As the world started to return to normal in 2022, I took the opportunity to return to a role closer aligned to operations, joining BSA as the Head of the Complex WOC. I worked with the GM to rebuild the operations, making the WOC into a driving force that would guide the operations teams. With a well-developed team and stable operating model in the WOC, I was asked to take the role as Service Delivery Manager of the NSW Simplex operations, the role I am currently in. Outside of my “normal” working week, I have a passion for live streaming sports, working with local sporting organisations to take their events to wider viewership, growing their participation and revenues. Whether I am behind the lense, barking instructions as director or on the commentary mic, you can find me most weekends down the local oval, court or skatepark.
