At ES&S I primarily work on embedded Linux systems in mostly C/C++. About a third of development time is spent maintaining and fixing bugs. All other time is spent adding and enhancing features of the Ds200 (voting system). The area I am responsible for is the IMR (Image Management Recognition). This piece is responsible for taking a scanned ballot, filtering the data, and turning the raw image into readable information. Along with image processing, I have also developed emulation software to emulate functions on the Ds200; for instance, scanning a ballot then converting that raw image data into a readable format.• C++ - Worked on embedded Linux devices.• Java - Created and maintained UI and business logic using Java.• Python - Used python to generate test data for unit tests• XSLT - When converting to new versions of our applications we would use XSLT for any transforming we would need.• XML - All our configurations for the applications where in XML.• Bash - Created an upgrade system that boots from a USB stick and automatically updates an entire Linux OS using bash.• GIT - Used Git as the version and source control. • CPPUnit - All functionality is test driven and we used CPPUnit as our automated unit testing tool.

At CSG I Primarily worked on a web application using C#, and a custom implementation of AJAX. Most of the work with my team was spent converting a Windows client application written in C++, and converting it to .NET. CSG is always using the latest technologies when possible, including WCF, and other .NET extensions. I’ve been primarily a consultant for the outbound department working on multiple projects using different technologies. Since I am proficient in a number of different programming languages I was efficient in a large number of projects that required a flexible working environment. Second I’m a penetration tester on remote servers for proof of concept vulnerabilities. Being a consultant means being flexible in new environments you’re exposed to, and having the ability to quickly learn, and become efficient in new areas. This involves wearing different hats in different places, from sitting down with the client and gathering specifications, to designing application architecture, to developing a project in a technology you might have to learn. Primary responsibility is to create a web based CRM tool using .NET using existing VB code. A large part of the transfer involves the redesign of the application. It can be a hard concept to learn, but development architecture is one of the most crucial points of any project especially when transferring from VB to VB.NET. When I first started, I saw that most of code being used did not take advantage of being object oriented, this makes creating new accounts a long process. I realized that by creating object oriented code in .NET, that EMS could cut the time it took to develop a new account. By using the set of libraries I made, EMS has no need of a full time programmer, and now only needs a part time programmer to quickly create new accounts when they need them. I’m also working on two other projects that require C++.
