Over the past three decades, my career has been very focused on the engineering, design and development of innovating products within the action sports, fashion, and medical device industries. The expertise I have developed throughout my career is in the Design of award winning bicycles frames for the Olympic Games, to complex composite-electromechanical bicycle componentry, to fashion accessories and cosmetics to innovative surgical instrumentation and robotics. Over the last 16yrs, my focus has been in Medical Device, exclusively. Leading some of the most iconic companies in Orthopedic & Prosthetics to Surgical Instrumentation and Implantable Med. Devices for all areas of the body. My expertise within Med. Device has been focused in the design of electronic systems, from mind-controlled prosthetics, Cold-Therapy/DVT systems, and wearable electronics monitoring ECG, pulse-oximitry, range of motion and a multitude of robotic systems. Leading the architecture for the design of multi-layer printed circuit boards including NFC, RFID, and blu-tooth integrated design are areas of strength I have acquired. I have leveraged my neuroscience background having extensive experience in motion tracking product design (wearables) and analysis of human movement, including Algorithm development for describing and driving openGL whole body animation/kinematics, using dual quaternion mathematics has been a huge focus throughout my career. My mindset supports a biomechanical engineering perspective, thru design language, project management, manufacturing readiness, and Far East manufacturing support. Additionally being a technical interface between Design, Marketing, and Operations for Sales Teams of companies within my portfolio, have been where I have excelled.Technologically, I enjoy challenges like complex surface modeling, creating parametrics to make designing efficient, and pushing the limits of evaluating modalities of MCT and PPFA of carbon fiber thru different techniques....yes I guess I'm a geek...I just like to figure out new ways of looking at things....and for fun, I absolutely love tig welding and handcrafting bicycles.

Sr. Group Manager 'Smart' Instruments & 'Smart' Implants Product DevelopmentGlobus Medical Jan 2024 - PresentSan Diego County, California, United StatesNuVasive, a leader in Spinal Surgical Solutions, is now a part of Globus Medical. We will continue to develop innovative spinal implants, and instrumentation to surgical robotic solutions. I'm very excited to be leading an amazing team of engineers in the development of the next generation 'SMART’ spinal surgical solutions for the future and beyond. My Team is now a wonderful mix electromechanical, electrical, clinical, firmware and software engineers out of our Pennsylvania, Boston & San Diego Offices. My role within our new merged company, is following in those same innovative driving footsteps created at NuVasive. The only exception being my team is a bit more narrowed in our focus. We are now only driving surgical solutions within the Smart Instruments & Smart Implants space. Our goal will be continuing our NuVasive approach focused on collecting data during surgery through disruptively innovative products. We will accomplish this focus through continued exploration in developing Smart Instruments, as we lay the ground work, as we previously did at NuVa, in the area of Smart Implants. This exploration will allow us insight into the Data Science of patient recovery and outcomes of the surgical procedure. It’s this collecting of patient data post-surgery through wireless implants that will drive us to more favorable data-driven surgical outcomes. -
Sr. Manager Advanced Product Development (Nuvasive)Globus Medical May 2021 - Jan 2024San Diego, California, United StatesPrior to our merger in Q4-2023, the Teams I managed were our Advanced Product Development Teams at NuVasive. Additionally, I managed a select few Teams taking some of these new technologies to commercialization, within our Global Interbody Systems group. Our APD Team was specifically focused on the design & development of Disruptive Innovations & New Technology Development for future product portfolio projects. These projects ranged from instrument, implants, robotics, next generation INS-navigation, next generation neuromonitoring and new manufacturing technologies, to name a few! These disruptive technology solutions were then implemented across our various Global Interbody and Surgical Intelligence portfolios. Some examples of these disruptive technology solutions from my Team, that were commercially launched, are the following. The development of our XLIF-Prone Patient Positioning System and instrumentation, to our unique ALIF-Bladed Solutions and XLIF expandable-additively manufactured interbody solutions! The most exciting area of my career is focusing and leading my Team on our NEW primarily goal. That of developing solutions for the new space of ‘Smart Surgical Solutions’. This heightened focus, allows developing a deeper understanding on not only ‘how’ a surgeon uniquely uses their instruments, but additional procedural planning data, all in support of positive surgical outcomes. Included in this amazing new area, are the implants themselves, Smart Implants, that is! Wirelessly collecting patient metrics in better understanding how they recover, as well as monitor throughout life, will be likely the most rewarding!! I'm looking forward to being able to showcase these amazing technologies in 2025 and beyond! -
