I’m a Chartered Engineer (CEng. software engineering) with many years of development, delivery and leadership experience. I’m a very successful, innovative transformational leader and technical specialist. I have extensive experience of coaching and mentoring at all levels.I've provided leadership on several major transformation programs. I've also held senior delivery management roles, as well as been the senior technical authority on large anti-malware projects.I have many years of experience of building teams and providing leadership within banking, defence, engineering, insurance, security, e-commerce and public sector projects.I live the North East of England with my wife Molly and will consider permanent work there, or contract work anywhere in the U.K. or Europe. I still code, and have a particular interest in "Internet of Things" applications and all things 'C'. I use microcontrollers, Raspberry Pis and sensors for monitoring/reporting. I stay up to date with current technologies.I've introduced "pragmatic" Agile and analysed and improved "ways of working" in several large organisations. I also have have a wealth of experience in all aspects of the software delivery process. I have extensive experience with Python, C (many decades), databases (both SQL and No Sql), Perl (pretty much disappeared now), Javascript, PHP (various frameworks for both) and shell scripting / system admin. Although no longer a full-time coder, having this knowledge helps in all aspects of management and delivery.I've also gained in-depth knowledge of the Jira, Confluence and GitHub APIs and used Python to extract and process detailed custom metrics.I like playing my ukulele, growing food, making wine and drinking real ale.In a previous life I spent several years in Commando Forces, so I can spin a good yarn over a beer :-)

Self-Employed Prototype DeveloperCode Whisperer Ltd. Aug 2020 - Jan 2021HartlepoolAs part of my passion for all things IOT, I decided to take some time to develop some ideas I've had for prototyping microcontroller hosted sensors, with data capture and reporting on Raspberry Pis.It's great to be coding C again. The prototypes uses LoRa low-powered radio to periodically send sensor information to a central hub for processing and triggering of irrigation, lights, ventilation etc.The remote areas have no access to electricity, so this required solar power and minimum power consumption within the systems. Skills:C build toolchain, PHP, data capture and processing, JQuery, AJAX, microcontrollers, electronics, sensors, building physical prototypes, Raspberry Pi. LoRa radio communication, low-power techniques.
