Flotilla Commander: The FC provides primary leadership and supervision to the flotilla. The FC is responsible for ensuring that the overall flotilla program conforms to the Coast Guard and Auxiliary policies and procedures and for providing the communications link with Division elected officers.

Carson-Newman security officers act as liaisons to local, state, and federal law enforcement officers, emergency management agencies, and University leadership at all levels. They respond to calls and take appropriate action to assist in emergencies, as well as search for unauthorized individuals. They control entrance and exit by checking for identity, the purpose of the visit, and authorization, and also escort individuals to ensure their safety. Additionally, they prepare and maintain records such as incident reports, vehicle citations, logs of visitors and others, and personal property reports. They submit comprehensive, prompt, timely, and accurate incident reports within 24 hours. Furthermore, they provide information to supervisors and communicate with law enforcement agencies to report incidents, provide information, or request assistance. They also testify in various courts of law and student disciplinary hearings on campus as needed. Security officers patrol facilities, monitor alarms, and check for security, hazards, disturbances, and violations of pertinent laws, rules, or regulations. They visually monitor individuals to ensure safety and compliance with policies, rules, and regulations. They operate patrol and transport vehicles to complete security patrols or transport valuables and individuals, as well as operate two-way radios and other communications devices to accomplish security tasks. They also operate the University's CCTV systems and perform investigations as assigned by the Patrol Supervisor, and operate and monitor the University's emergency notification system (LiveSafe®) and perform functions like building lockdown on KeyScan®.
