I am currently a freshman at Indiana University and in the Kelley School of Business. My interest in business began early. Starting from a math project composed of picking stocks and watching their growth. Later a science project, which consisted of determining the viability of the Battery Shoe sought to figure out how to collect solar energy as we walk to charge the contained battery, and then use its power with other devices. The goal was to help the environment, and impoverished countries obtain electricity easily. I have also gained interest in the business from the competition-based clubs I am a member of, namely DECA and FBLA wherein I have competed in the areas of marketing and business calculations, and medaled, which has moved me on to the state finals.Business models and their success have been an interest of mine from an early age and led me to want to focus on business in High School. But while in school, I knew that I wanted to initiate my own entrepreneurial spirit by founding something of my own. I recently brainstormed the idea to come up with an outreach program to assist seniors with technology. I created a flyer that explained how I would be able to help, and what my program of assistance would consist of. In that entrepreneurial spirit, I presented my proposal and flyer to the directors of various libraries, senior centers, and assisted living facilities. Some did not see my vision; some just placated me, but I believed in what I was presenting. Eventually, one assisted living facility saw the value of what I offered and gave me the opportunity to implement my services. I currently provide bi-monthly hands-on assistance to the seniors there and have a vision of expanding these services to other places.
