Responsible for 24x7 routine operations on the 'Flight Deck' of the current QBE Data Centre in Australia. The site makes use of multiple platforms for day to day processing involving Mainframe, Midrange (Unix, Linux & AS400 - iSeries) , Wintel based server platforms as well as numerous front end applications to serve the needs of the business and external customers. As Shift Lead one must possess a working knowledge of Helpdesk Support, Network, Server Arrays, Database functionality, Process Workflows, Configured Storage Arrays, Disaster Recovery, Change Management Control, Desktop and Application specific idioms as they are mandatory for problem determination and after hours support functions. QBE Computer Operations major responsibilities entail the preparation and overnight processing of QBE's general business as well as ensuring critical systems and applications are available to meet business expectations on a daily basis to the 'global' customer using the systems. Further major responsibilities in the supervisory role outside of the usual spectrum of daily operations are the requirement to coordinate Major Incident Management, Change Management, Business Continuity Recovery Processes and Helpdesk Support as well as a capacity to perform initial problem alert diagnosis across the entire system including networks, database, and server. These responsibilities require one to solve issues outside of normal business hours in real time and apply the knowledge of effective engagement of offshore support. Other duties involve complete site power up and power downs and management of offsite machine room capacities and access management. This role of Shift Lead combines a capacity for professional business minded leadership in decision making under pressure, and a skill in managing subordinates. Due to the 24 x 7 nature of the business one must apply due diligence, responsibility, an ability to follow through with managing break/fix situations and forward thinking.
