As a neurophysiology scientist, I assisted surgeons during orthopaedic and neurosurgery throughout Australia by performing intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM). To do so I employ a multimodal IONM approach that involves Trans-cranial Motor Evoked Potentials (TcMEPs), Somatosensory Evoked Potentials (SSEPs), D-Wave, Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potentials (BAERs), Lateral Spread Response (LSP), Electroencephalography (EEG), Free-running Electromyography (EMG) and Triggered EMG to provide the best outcomes for both the patient and surgeon.Specifically, I specialise in:• Developing and maintaining positive rapport with clients, physicians, and support staff to ensure lasting business relationships.• Spinal cord monitoring during scoliosis and kyphosis correctional surgery.• Nerve root monitoring and instrument stimulation during minimally invasive interbody vertebral fixation and fusion surgery.• Direct stimulation and identification of tissues during tumour resection.• The utilisation and interpretation of EEG during cranial aneurysm surgery.• Cranial nerve monitoring during craniotomy.• Cortical motor mapping, monitoring of corticospinal tract integrity, and monitoring of ECoG after-discharges during language mapping.

Initially this role presented a new challenge as I was required to develop an in-depth understanding of cardiac physiology. I successfully completed all Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) training on an accelerated timeline and continue to learn and utilise this knowledge in the field. This role put me in a leadership position where I was responsible for up to 5 checkout operators, understanding customer grievances, and maintaining a tight schedule.The constant interaction with customers means I have become exceptionally good at reading people, gauging their needs, and meeting their sometimes grueling standards. It has helped me to develop the perfect approachable demure, allowing me to interact and develop strong relationships with people in short and infrequent periods of time.
