Profile bio

About Shane Deery

I am an enthusiastic and detail-oriented neurophysiology scientist and medical device rep who has extensive experience with surgical cardiac, neuro and spinal-orthopaedic cases nationally across Australia. I take great pride in my work, and am passionate about teaching and leading others as they develop and improve upon their existing skills. My long-term goal is to develop into a medical or corporate leadership role where I can mentor and support others with a management style tailored to their individual needs and motivations. A passion project of mine has been to develop and produce a reliable 3D printed custom hand prosthetic which is controlled by electromyography (EMG) and provides sensation to the user. This is an ongoing project that has taught me a lot as I have (through self driven learning) developed skills in 3D modelling, 3D printing, Coding and Electronics. This project has grown into me working as a PhD student with the Medical Device Research Institute and the Flinders University College of Science and Engineering. My project is focused on developing an affordable and accessible 3D printed upper limb prosthetic which incorporates reliable and functionally useful haptic feedback. If anyone knows any great resources in these areas, has experience they would like to share, or something they think I can help with, please reach out.

Listed skills include Laboratory Skills, Laboratory Experience, Tissue Processing, Research, and 19 others.

Additionally, in the role, I worked closely with surgeons to identify areas of opportunity and research how IONM could be utilised in novel, surgical applications and benefit patient outcomes.
