Shane honed his litigation skills in federal courts across the country and diverse industries. Examples include:► Transcenic Inc. v. Google Inc., Microsoft Corp., AOL Inc. & MapQuest Inc.(D. Del. 2011). Represented the plaintiff in a patent infringement action related to online mapping applications. Settlement was reached.► Chamberlain Group, Inc. v. GMI Holdings, Inc. and Overhead Door Corp. (N.D. Ill. 2011). Represented the plaintiff in a patent infringement action involving obstruction-sensing systems for garage doors. Settlement was reached.► Deere & Company v. Bush Hog, LLC and Great Plains Manufacturing, Inc. (S.D. Iowa 2009). Represented the plaintiff in a patent infringement action involving the design of pull-behind rotary cutters.► WMH Tool Group, Inc. v. Woodstock International, Inc. and Grizzly Industrial, Inc. (N.D. Ill. 2007). Represented the plaintiff in a trade dress infringement action related to color in woodworking and metalworking tools. Settlement was reached.► Chamberlain Group, Inc. and Johnson Controls Interiors LLC. v. Lear Corp. (N.D. Ill. 2005). Represented the plaintiff in a patent infringement action involving a rolling code encryption system for use with garage door openers. Settlement was reached.

Shane participated in a number of litigation matters including a multi-million dollar pharmaceutical patent infringement case, a large federal trademark case, and a copyright lawsuit.

Shane researched and analyzed appellate briefs and the relevant law, and prepared draft opinions for Judge Dykman. He also prepared bench memorandum for the judges in panel decisions on matters of first impression.

Shane analyzed and interpreted technology contracts including assignments of intellectual property, scope of warranty and indemnity provisions, license agreements and technology metrics and created a database of technology contracts to promote better contract management.

Shane conducted structural inspections throughout the building process and created engineering designs in response to problems encountered during the building process of a 200 home development.
