Loved working as a grocery manager at Warkworth New World. The position gave me valuable experience with managing, interacting and working alongside a large team. This position gave me to opportunity to implement communication sessions with the full team of the store, focusing on sharing and educating employees on what our values of integrity, teamwork, customer focus, fun, growth and development and pride mean and how we can incorporate them within our everyday tasks. Overall, I loved this position and my team and was sad to leave them when I decided to go into full time study to complete my degree in management and finance.

This position plunged me into the world of FMCG, where sales targets and maximising sales for our department was interlinked with gaining customer satisfaction. For me, I find there is a bubble around what actually happens within a supermarket, how big the industry is and how much effort goes into deciding what to stock on the shelves. It isn't until you are within the industry itself and working with FMCG that you realise the large frame work. Retail is an industry that I will always love due to the fast pace and the connection you gain with customers (especially regular customers you get with supermarkets). This job allowed me to work alongside a great manager who I value as a role model for leadership. His sharing of knowledge and experiences with dealing with larger teams and a variety of different people inspired me to love building a team, and watching that team grow through shared knowledge, training and encouragement. I have build connections and networks within the grocery team at New World Warkworth that are still strong today despite our separation.
