Purchased and set up equipment for state-of-the-art femtosecond laser nanoprocessing laboratory. Fabricated femtosecond-laser written optical waveguides, directional couplers, Mach-Zehnder interferometers and Bragg-grating waveguides supported by Rsoft BeamPROP and Lumerical MODE software design tools.Expertise in device characterization technique including insertion, propagation and coupling losses, near-field mode profile, micro-Raman spectroscopy, refracted near field profilometry, and microscopy.Supervisor Prof. Peter R. Used computer simulation software (Lastip, Las2d) to improve the design of semiconductor laser diodes (buried heterostructure and buried ridge) and assembled a new test station and wrote a LabVIEW program for measuring relative intensity noise, optical power and chirp for common platform laser diodes.

Built a reference cell for use in magneto-optic trap and aligned optics to perform saturation spectroscopy experiments to determine optimum parameters for optical pumping of Potassium-41.

Worked with a project team assembling a fuel cell engine and designed and tested a custom valve for use in the fuel cell engine (Ford P2000 prototype car).
