He (as a Petty Officer) and his colleague (Leut G Horner) thoroughly investigated and worked through the business processes, quality requirements and methods by which full end to end tracking of maintenance managed items could be achieved whilst ensuring that there was no comprise to airworthiness. As a result of the paper, the Fleet Air Arm adopted the Computer Aided Maintenance Management (CAMM ) system that also integrated into the Maintenance Analysis And Reporting System (MAARS) so that high quality data was available at all times. In addition, under Shane’s tutelage, the system was implemented so that an end-to-end view of maintenance, usage and location information was available at all times (unlike the Air Force implementation).• Naval Aircraft Logistics Office - Manager Information Systems. He subsequently undertook the Logistic Information Support Program (LISP) within the Naval Aircraft Logistic Office to improve how the processes and systems that generate key logistical information could be improved, standardized and integrated.Shane was awarded an Australia Day Medallion in 1995 for his outstanding management of a project team in the development of the Logistics Information Support Program at the Naval Aircraft Logistics Office.He also consulted to Navy Aviation projects in regards to the data elements required to enable an integrated and optimized logistical view.
