About Shanen Aranmor, Ms, Cwi/Cwe
I am often considered a life coach with a welding helmet. I have taught welding to people as old as five years old and as young as 88... so far. My approach may be a bit unusual but I believe that learning should be fun. I believe that fabrication is art and art is fabrication. Whether I am teaching a person to build a table or create a piece of original art, they are using STEAM skills and pushing comfort zones. The only way to grow- as a person/as a professional- is to challenge yourself to do things that might seem uncomfortable or out-of-reach.I coined the term "wellness welding" when I melded my background as a mental health therapist/wellness professional with metalsmithing skills I have been building since 2008. Although I loved traveling and teaching for one of the largest welding manufacturers in the country, I realized I could make a bigger impact if I redesigned the box and approached the world from a grassroots perspective, building people up using welding as the medium. I focused on girls and women to transform something that seemed scary and dangerous into something incredibly empowering. What I didn't expect was that boys and men wanted to play, too. I developed co-ed welding workshops in a supportive and welcoming environment. What I learned was fascinating... I was creating interest in the trades- not simply home hobbyists, but actually opening the world of manufacturing an fabrication up to kids who had never considered careers outside of their daily norm. I am a strong advocate for the trades and believe that while we have strayed for many years, it is time to revive American manufacturing. Invest in American-made. Support American-made products. Encourage kids to explore the trades. Heck, quit your desk job and enroll in trade school. Build, learn, make. When you master a craft, teach the younger generations.Life's journeys can be long and windy, even sometimes circuitous. Don't wait; take that risk. Give it your all. Live out loud. Be the change you want to see in the world. If you screw up, apologize and then fix it. Be your best self; live your best life.#welding #americanmanufacturing #bethechange #liveyourbestlife #masteryourcraft

Founder/Chief Wellness Welder
CurrentWho We AreWeld Like A Girl is an empowerment project for girls and women, using welding and creativity to boost self-esteem and whole-person wellness. We provide a safe space to explore the mysterious world of welding and cutting hot metal, understanding that this world may be completely foreign and many will need some guidance navigating. We might show up in your neighborhood, at the local college or university, or even in the parking lot at your middle school. The whole point is to make empowerment accessible. If you think you cannot do something then you try it and it turns out you actually CAN do it, just imagine all of the things you CAN do next! What We Stand ForWe stand for providing girls and women the opportunity to see how badass they really are. We stand for recognizing and embracing the many talents we have, as hidden as they may be. We stand for life-long learning and never selling yourself short. We also stand for Made in America, recycled and green products, family-owned businesses and companies founded by/run by all women. We do our best to support those folks during our workshops and in our daily business. What We Are NotWe are not a welding institute or formal educational program. While we can provide welding certifications, this is not our primary focus. If you are interested in welding beyond your experiences at Weld Like A Girl, please refer to www.aws.org or your local community college. We are not man-haters. Each of us in life has had good teachers and role models- chances are nearly everyone has had at least one important male role model. We are not trying to exclude boys or men, we are simply providing a safe opportunity for girls and women to try something that might intimidate or scare them at first.
Chief Wellness Welder, Astrocamp (Idyllwild, Ca)
CurrentEach summer, I join the AMAZING AstroCamp staff to offer an unusual elective: WELDING. I inspire young people to step outside of their comfort zone and build things out of solid steel, using welders, light sabers and various power tools. Since this is often the first time super smart kids get to use a plasma cutter, MIG welding gun, chop saw, 4 1/2" angle grinder or OXY torch to bend & braze, I create a safe and FUN project AstroCampers can't wait to show off at home! So far... a 5lb slice of pizza (2018) and a taco & taco stand (2019) were sent home to brag about. (Our 2020's food-themed project will remain a mystery as it has been tabled to 2021.) Our camp community projects include a plasma cut & welded puzzle pieces sculpture (2018) and a giant star made out of steel stars (2019). To infinity and beyond!!!
Nccer Designated Ats Representative
I believe in the skilled trades so much that I spend two days of each busy week at ARIZONA@WORK (YPIC), working on promoting the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) trades programs in our community. NCCER offers portable, stackable credentials in 70+ trades that NEVER expire. The best part? People from each industry determine the curriculum so material remains relevant to each craft. Check out www.nccer.org for more info!
Host For The Money Machine (It'S All About The Trades)
We are about to embark upon a journey to highlight the skilled trades... we will travel far and wide to illustrate the value, importance and integrity of the men and women who have built- and continue to build- America.
National Presenter
I presented at the National Wellness Conference on a variety of wellness topics such as empowerment issues, environmental wellness, mental health, life balance, working with survivors of sexual abuse and resilience.
Western Regional Trainer
As a regional trainer, I had the opportunity to travel to all of the Miller Electric Regional Training Centers West of the Mississippi to teach classes in the Miller Masters program. I also taught in Edmonton & Quebec, Canada. It was fun to teach welding to new distributors and an honor to work with distributors who have many years of industry experience. It was also very satisfying learning the nuances of the Miller product line, as well as learning basic trouble shooting, advanced welding processes, etc.
Empower Coordinator
It is an honor and a privilege to offer the following workshops, with the blessings of the leadership team at Miller Electric:Independence. Creativity. Strength. Confidence. Empowerment. That’s what little (and big) girls are made of in today’s world. In this one-day workshop, girls and women will be introduced to manufacturing in fun and creative ways. Participants will learn how to cut solid steel and weld that steel into shapes and small sculptures they never thought possible. With actual equipment used by welding sculptors and welding industry experts alike, each participant will have an opportunity to cut solid steel with a plasma cutter (PAC) and then weld metal pieces together through the process of Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), otherwise known as MIG welding. During the morning portion of the workshop, both cutting and welding procedures will be outlined and basic safety procedures clearly defined. All necessary materials, personal protective equipment (such as Arc Armor welding helmets, safety glasses, hearing-protection and face shields) as well as Miller welding equipment will be provided. The main focus of the morning session will be empowerment through knowledge of the safe use of tools. In the afternoon portion of the workshop, participants will design a small metal sculpture of their own. The main focus of the afternoon will be confidence-boosting and self-expression, within the context of welding. After this eight-hour workshop, participants will never look at metal the same again! What appears solid and immovable is merely a material waiting for the right combination of time, heat and patience to be transformed into a liquid, flowing piece that becomes welding sculpture. Steel will be used as an analogy for our own seemingly immovable and solid road blocks in life.
