This design was used on the shoulder and hip joints of humanoid robots developed for the DARPA Robotics Challenge and the Max Planck Institute.● Kinematic design and electric actuator sizing for low cost upper body wearable motion capture suit with force feedback.● Analyzed, sized, and performed verification testing on high torque direct drive motors for the track drive of the Low Profile Tracked Vehicle UGV, an interconnected mule train of vehicles for transport of military supplies.● Specified the mobile base and hydraulic power supply components for Big Arm Heavy Lift System, a diesel powered tracked vehicle with two large tele-operated, 7 foot long, 9 DOF, anthropomorphic, hydraulic arms, each capable of lifting 200 lbs.● Hardening and sealing original prototype design of the Multi-Dimensional Mobile Robot (MDMR) robotic snake, an 11 DOF tracked mobile robot capable of exploring narrow confined spaces.● Development of IC engine powered hydraulic power supply for the DARPA Exoskeleton XOS 2. Developed power requirements, specified power plant and hydraulic components, participated in mechanical design.● Developed hydraulic servo valves for DARPA Exoskeleton XOS 2. Concept to production. Included design of prototype valve drive motor to meet challenging size, weight, and dynamic response requirements and design of valve hydraulic elements. Led development of robot joint control scheme. Design and control scheme reduced power consumption by 50% compared to COTS valves.
