Shani Robison (B.A. Dance (1995), and M.A. Dance--Performance/Choreography (1999) from BYU). Shani is adjunct ballet faculty at the University of Utah, Co-Artistic Director of Chrysalis Ballet, Ballet Instructor/Choreographer for Wasatch Contemporary Dance Company, and teaches and choreographs for professional dance companies/schools throughout Utah. Shani was a tenured associate professor of ballet in the BYU Department of Dance for 19 years, directing the BYU ballet program 9 years, both ballet companies for 15 years, and taught all levels of ballet technique, pointe, and variations; additionally instructing academic courses such as Dance History and Introduction to Dance. Shani is certified in Stott Pilates Reformer and Mat-all levels, American Ballet Theatre's National Curriculum Pre-Primary through Levels 5, and Progressing Ballet Technique. Shani is professional faculty and/or has taught intensives/master classes at: Central Utah Ballet, Lifehouse Performing Arts Academy, Utah Dance Institute, Imagine Ballet Theatre, Ballet West Academy, Odyssey Dance Theatre, The Dance Club, Center Stage, The Pointe, and the Rocky Mountain School of Classical Ballet; Las Vegas Academy of the Arts, Creative Arts Center (Helena, Montana); Regional Dance America, Pacific Region Festivals; American College Dance Festivals, Northwest Region; Ballet Idaho; College of Southern Idaho; and University of Cape Town in South Africa.Shani has choreographed 4 original full-length ballet productions, restaged 2 full-length classical ballets, and restaged excerpts and sections from many others. Shani has choreographed over 40 contemporary ballet works, 13 classical/neoclassical works, 4 opera productions, and 2 musical theatre productions. Shani has received international, national, and regional recognition, as her contemporary ballet works were selected and performed at the Florence Italy Dance Festival, Palm Desert Choreography Festival, American College Dance Association Festival (ACDA), and the Utah Metropolitan’s Professional Division of the Choreographic Design Project. Shani’s work was recognized as a finalist in the 2023 Online International Online Dance Competition and she won the 2023 and 2024 the Rocky Mountain Choreography Festivals. Most recently Shani won the 2024 Utah Best in State Choreographer Award.Shani has presented ballet pedagogical and historical research internationally and nationally. She has been a professional member and former President and Treasurer of CORPS de Ballet, International; and professional member of both NDEO and UDEO.
