Shraddha Maanu Foundation (SMF) is a not-for-profit organization in Chennai, founded in 2018 by a group of like-minded, mid-career women who wanted to use education as a tool to improve the lives of those on the fringes of society.Our vision is to mainstream marginalized women and children through innovative education pathways. We have identified two key problems – 1. Foundational Literacy & Numeracy (FLN) and 2. the lack of opportunities for marginalized graduate women to pursue productive occupations.To address these challenges, we have designed two programs, UPASANA and VIPASANA.UPASANA is a certificate program in Multiple Intelligences training for after-school educators of primary school, which trains women from predominantly marginalized backgrounds to take up part-time teaching jobs. These women go on to teach primary school children from underserved communities in Math, Science, English, and Value Education.VIPASANA is our after-school education program that caters to primary school children from socio-economically disadvantaged sections.We work with women and children in Tamil Nadu, and our programs have made a significant impact on their lives.
