- Collaborated with European LWIR imaging company to develop a long range gas cloud imager for the global oil and gas market. Awarded U.S. Patent US 7,687,776.- Development and launch of industry leading UV/IR flame detectors for hydrocarbon (HC) and hydrogen (H2) flame detection.- Fundamental studies on discharge lamps in MWIR, leading to an industry leading product: an open path hydrocarbon and VOC monitoring system, sensitive to parts per million. Senior Electro-Optical Scientist
Infrared/Electro-Optics - Infrared materials and sensors for industrial, railroad, space and defence applications. Developed thermistor bolometers, lead salt, high-Tc superconductors, pyroelectric detectors and imaging arrays. Setup hybrid microelectronics facility for space-qualified pyroelectric detector fabrication. Developed horizon sensors using pyroelectric detectors and LWIR optics for major aerospace companies. Lead scientist for detector development for NASA CERES program. Developed a novel pyroelectric reference (light trap) detector for detector characterization from 0.3 um to IR 200 microns. US patent 4,948,976 titled Two Color PbS/PbSe Coincident FOV Detector. Materials Research - Developed manufacturing process for rf magnetron sputtering of transition metal oxides for IR thermal detectors and arrays. Conducted fundamental studies on electrical and optical properties of multi-valent transition metal oxides. Early fabrication and publications on high-Tc YSrCuO superconductors in collaboration with CNRS, Meudon, France. Investigated process for spin coating and polarization of copolymer pyroelectric films, including on MEMS architectures, U.S. Patents 5,502,307 and 5,620,740. Multi-Spectral IR Analysis - Project Manager for natural gas BTU content measurement by multi-spectral LWIR infrared signature analysis for a Long Island utility company. - Partnered with a mid-west medical instrumentation company for a multi-spectral LWIR anesthesia monitor using a patented 8-channel pyroelectric detector, US Patent 5,497,003.
Member Of Technical Staff
Research & fabrication of superconducting devices both conventional (Nb, NbN ) and emerging high-Tc (YBaCuO) superconductors. USAF contract for a superconducting phase shifter for a Terahertz Imaging Radar System; designed and built a Mach-Zehnder modulator as proof of concept. ONR contracts for IR Detection with Superconducting Thin Films, Josephson Junction Devices and Arrays.
