Hello, my name is Shannon Downey. I am originally from Long Island, New York. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Management from SUNY New Paltz. I am currently employed as the Executive Assistant to Mayor Ted Rosen at the Village of Great Neck Plaza. I have over five years of executive assistant experience at the Village. I currently support the Mayor day-to-day by checking all mail, email and phone correspondence, answering phone calls, drafting correspondence and managing his calendar. I also plan virtual and in-person meetings and luncheons. As the Front Desk Receptionist, I greeted guests, sorted mail and operated a busy switchboard by transferring calls to the appropriate department. In addition, I supported the Court Clerk in mass mailings, financial reports and document filings. I have experience planning events for the Village including Lunar New Year, Older Americans Month, the United Against Hate Conference and Women's History Month. I plan ribbon cuttings for new businesses and our Summer Concert Series, which takes place over the span of 10 weeks during the summer. In addition to public events, I also plan internal events such as the annual holiday party, employee birthdays and employee work anniversaries. Previously, I served as an Alumni Relations Assistant to the Assistant Director of the Office of Development at SUNY New Paltz. In this role, I wrote and mailed thank you notes to donors of the Fund for New Paltz, used the alumni database to locate and update alumni information and helped prepare for and run events such as Alumni Reunion and 100 Days to Commencement. In addition, as the Co-Chair of the Senior Gift Committee, I promoted the Senior Gift through email, social media, events and mailings and raised $9,778.I am a very detail-oriented person with strong verbal and written communication skills from my time as an English tutor at SUNY New Paltz. These skills have only strengthened since I entered the workplace where I am constantly proofreading letters and emails. Although local government is not where I thought I would land when I initially graduated from college, I find myself using skills from my Marketing and Management majors daily. I have been with the Village for over five years and could not be happier with everything this position has taught me.
