My personal goals for my fellowship were to gain first hand experience teaching in a developing country, and to foster positive encouragement for Rwandan girls so that they know that they are confident, capable women who can accomplish incredible feats. My immersion in this culture gave me valuable insight into the inner-workings and effects of international development, and allowed me to challenge which practices in place are sustainable and beneficent. Lastly, I furthered my research on gender equality in Rwanda through interviews and site visits, which I synthesized in my final project of an essay and an in-person presentation on Belmont’s campus.
