My work and educational experience has helped me hone the skills necessary to support others through social-emotional development. My most important course and experiential development outside of my internship has occurred in my clinical psychology course, in which we perform weekly clinical interviews, developing our microskills and honing our clinical voice. The skills from this course have been absolutely crucial to my development as a clinician, building the skills necessary to support behavioural change, wellness and emotional growth in a professional setting. My work with seniors for over five years has helped me develop patience, empathy and deeper respect and positivity towards the experience of aging. I have also developed skills in grief support and motivational interviewing for this specific life stage. At CASA, I have learned the importance of modeling for children in their development, and the different approaches that can be taken to assist children when they are seeking restoration and a safe space.
