About Shannon Gorse

I have nearly 9 years of international teaching experience teaching grade two to four at three international schools (International School of Dakar, Beijing City International School and currently teaching grade two at the International School of Tanganyika). I have training and practical experience in concept-based learning through the IB PYP, Understanding by Design and various other utilized educational programs. I take pride in implementing various research-based differentiation strategies in all areas. These experiences include providing opportunities to build an inclusive classroom, where students of multi-abilities and backgrounds are learning in a secure environment.Integration of Technology: Technology is one of the driving forces leading to innovation in classroom. It is important to not just teach the use of technology, but integrate it to enhance learning outcomes. I take pleasure trying new technologies and implementing the use of various iPad and computer programs to support student learning in the classroom. Currently, I am incorporating the application called Explain Everything into our maths centre; allowing students to orally explain how they choose to solve a problem. Throughout the unit, my students were taught different strategies for adding simple digits. Each student was able to use this application to show understanding of the problem and match it to the appropriate addition strategy. In addition to using technology for learning in the classroom, I have created a blog to keep parents informed of the different learnings happening in our classroom. My aim is for parents to engage their children in discussions about learning activities leading to student action. Throughout the unit, a growing number of parents share what was discussed and/or actions taken and I use this information when assessing student understanding.
