After receiving my J.D. degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and sitting for the Ohio Bar Examination in July 2018, I was excited to reconnect with Zukerman, Daiker & Lear Co., L.P.A.I accepted a position with Zukerman, Daiker & Lear Co., L.P.A. as part of a small team put together to redevelop the firm's website.Shortly thereafter, I accepted a full time position as a law clerk.Role:My role in the web design was to create and edit legal content. This role encompassed legal research, as well as writing. My goal was to research different areas of law and concisely rephrase the content, drafted in a user-friendly format. I also attended meetings regarding the progress of the website.As a law clerk I drafted civil and criminal documents and research various legal issues. I also conducted client meetings to gather information, update the client on the status of his/her case, and assist in preparing a defense.

During college breaks, as well as throughout law school, I assisted my family by working at Beans Coffee Shop & Bistro, a family-owned business.Role:I worked as both a barista and cook, where I demonstrated exceptional multi-tasking skills to ensure excellent customer service while preparing beverages and food, cash handling, stocking, and performing other duties. I also trained new staff in coffee preparations, register operations, and internal company processes.

During my second year of law school, I was excited to join the Civil Litigation Clinic at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law as a student. Throughout my time as a student in the civil litigation clinic, I was mentored by two attorneys and was able to gain real-world experience through the representation of clients. I also attended weekly seminars. Role:As a student in the clinic, I researched various legal issues and prepared memoranda. I assisted in drafting a Brief and Reply Brief for an unemployment case that was filed in the Eighth District Court of Appeals. The Eighth District Court of Appeals granted the Appeal and awarded our client unemployment benefits. I also assisted in drafting a Reply Brief for an ineffective assistance of counsel case, which was filed in the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Following my conclusion as a student in the clinic, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit heard oral arguments. The case has not yet been decided. I also conducted an initial client meeting regarding a housing discrimination case.Aside from working on real-life cases, I was able to participate in various simulations. I simulated an initial client meeting, opening statement, deposition, negotiation, and cross-examination.

Following my admittance to Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, I continued to gain experience and training through my work as a law clerk at Zukerman, Daiker & Lear Co., L.P.A.Role:As a law clerk at Zukerman, Daiker & Lear Co., L.P.A., I drafted legal documents for civil and criminal cases including civil complaints, demand letters, mediation statements, motions to continue, motions to extend expert report due date, motions for leave, pretrial statements, motions to suppress evidence, and motions for judicial release. I prepared client letters, as well as researched and prepared memoranda. As a law clerk, I worked closely with attorneys and regularly interacted with clients.

Following my time at the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas observing Judge Deena R. Calabrese's courtroom, I took a position as an assistant at Zukerman, Daiker & Lear Co., L.P.A. At Zukerman, Daiker & Lear Co., L.P.A. I gained invaluable experience and knowledge of the law prior to becoming a law student. Role:As an assistant, I worked on personal injury cases ordering medical and billing records, and reviewing and organizing records. I was able to further learn about the procedure of civil and criminal cases.

After graduating with a B.A. in Sociology-Criminology from Ohio University, I took one year off to figure out what I wanted to do with my degree. Shortly after returning home from Athens, Ohio, I was introduced to Judge Deena R. Calabrese. Judge Calabrese graciously allowed me to observe her chambers and courtroom a few times a week for a span of time starting in June 2014 and concluding in November 2014.Role:As an observer, I was able to view proceedings such as trials, settlement conferences, arraignments, and sentencing. It was at the Cuyahoga County Justice Center that I realized that law was my passion and that I wanted to pursue a degree in law.
