I am an enthusiastic educator with a passion for science! I earned a BS in Biology and a BSE in Biology Education from MSSU. I received my MS Biology degree from the University of Nebraska Kearney. I worked on my master's research on the island of Vieques, where I worked with US Fish and Wildlife to study crab burrow morphology and population dynamics. I began homeschooling my son during pandemic but he's returned to brick and mortar. I most recently worked as a Biology Lecturer at Missouri Southern State University. I taught General Biology for nonmajors, Essential Anatomy and Physiology, and Anatomy and Physiology 1. I have experience with utilizing cadavers for teaching. I have been in education for 26 years. I spent the first 16 years of my career in public education. I taught a number of different courses at the high school level, including Chemistry, Advanced Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, Integrated Science I and II, Applied Biology and Chemistry, Gifted Education (Grades 3 - 8), and Science Research. As a high school teacher, I developed and implemented a highly successful science research course where students took their work to various competitions to earn nearly $1 million in scholarships, prizes, and trips over a ten year period. My first higher ed experience was teaching at a community college. I worked for five years at NEO and loved this experience of teaching adult learners. I was the sponsor of PTK on campus for two years. PTK was a very active honor society on campus and kept me very involved with students and service projects. I volunteered my time as the Science Fair Director for the NEO Regional Science and Engineering Fair. I also served on the ISEF Advisory Council for three years (2010 - 2013) and was the coordinator for on-site teacher workshops during ISEF week. In the summer of 2014, I lead student research for a water quality study on Tar Creek under a grant from the National Great Rivers Research and Education Center. After moving on to MSSU to work as a biology lecturer for five years, I was actively involved in the biology department as the acting liaison for dual credit courses in biology. I also served on two university committees and was the director of the special award for the science fair.
