I grew up playing on the banks of the Capilano River in BC and fell in love with rivers and the salmon who live in them. I had the fortune to train under great scientists in hydrology and climate change in Canada, USA and France. In 2010 I joined the faculty at Dalhousie University in Halifax Canada and founded the Hydrology and Climate Change Research Group. Since then, my team has been busy documenting the extent of chronic acidification in Nova Scotia's forests and rivers, and the urgent threats it poses to ecosystems and wildlife. We have developed novel approaches to monitoring, assessing and evaluating water quality and quantity. Most recently I have been developing economically viable technologies that can reduce the toxic legacy of terrestrial and freshwater acidification while increasing carbon drawdown. I founded CarbonRun to make this technology more accessible and widely available to combat climate change and protect threatened ecosystems and wildlife.
