I wrote about local events happening in Sonoma County, with a focus on arts and entertainment, for the Press Democrat Newspaper and website (a former NY Times company.) As one of the first and only freelancers asked to write and given access to every town in the county, I was highly specialized, and the only Towns writer to be given this freedom. I had a passion for my job and helped get the site up and running, over a year ago, while the paper was part of the New York Times Regional Newspaper Group. I focused on the Towns section, a hyper-local news site, online. Towns has been very successful for the newspaper, with many advertisers, as well as a great place to learn about local events happening in all Sonoma County towns. I worked for some great people who believed in my abilities, including : Greg Retsinas and Tomas Chadsey. Thanks to Features Editor, Joanne D for helping start the site and strongly suggesting that I take a chance and be a part of Towns, I agreed. I ended up loving every minute, I learned so much, the site continues to be successful.
